Wood is recruiting for a Senior Telecom Engineer to join its Transmission & Distribution business. This opportunity is hybrid and can be based in Calgary, AB, Edmonton, AB, or Vancouver, BC.

This role involves leading and performing engineering design for telecommunication systems in transmission and distribution projects from conception to construction. The Senior Telecom Engineer will work with various communication technologies, develop engineering documents, coordinate with multiple disciplines, and oversee installation and commissioning processes while ensuring compliance with industry standards.

- Lead and perform engineering design for telecom systems in transmission line and substation projects
- Work with communication systems in power utility environments, including Microwave Radio, Fibre Optics (ADSS, OPGW), SONET/SDH/DWDM, TCP/IP/MPLS, Satellite Systems, WiMax, Power Line Carrier communication, Teleprotection, and telecom power systems
- Prepare calculations for -48 VDC telecom power systems and fibre optic cable budgets
- Develop engineering documents, schematics, and design diagrams for telecom systems
- Create bills of materials for telecom equipment and hardware, order materials, and coordinate construction activities
- Review engineering documents, specifications, and testing procedures
- Coordinate with Transmission, Distribution, Civil, Electrical, P&C, and SCADA teams to meet system requirements
- Oversee installation and commissioning with utilities and subcontractors
- Respond to site information requests and complete project documentation, including as-builts and calculations
- Travel to project sites and liaise with internal teams, external contractors, and clients
- Maintain and enhance relationships with stakeholders
- Ensure compliance with industry safety practices and project budgets
- Act as Professional Record for work within the field of practice

Expected:
- Electrical Engineering Degree from a recognized university or college
- Minimum of 8+ years of telecom experience in a Transmission & Distribution Utility or EPC/EPCM organization designing substations or carrier networks
- North American power utility design experience is an asset
- Proven knowledge of SONET/SDH/DWDM, PDH, TDM, Microwave Radio, Fibre Optic, WIMAX, VSAT, Ethernet layer 2 and 3 protocols, TCP/IP/MPLS networks
- Knowledge of LAN/WAN systems, Structured Cabling Systems (SCS/OSP/ISP), DPABX, UHF-DMR, security and access control systems, public address, and audio-visual equipment
- Registration through EGBC (or eligibility for provincial transfer) as a P.Eng/P.L. (Eng) is required
- Candidates with fewer years of relevant experience may be considered for Junior/Intermediate Engineer positions
