Wood is recruiting for a Process Safety Engineer to join its Projects Canada business. This opportunity is Hybrid, based in Calgary, AB or Edmonton, AB.

We are seeking experienced engineers with the drive and commitment to make a genuine difference across the full life cycle of projects, including study phase, DBM, FEED, and Detailed Design. The successful candidate will be engaged in projects across several areas, including oil and gas (upstream, midstream, downstream), energy transition, and petrochemical industries.

Responsibilities
  • Develop active and passive fire protection philosophies for greenfield projects using applicable codes and standards. Update existing fire protection plans for brownfield projects
  • Develop process safety implementation plans
  • Develop process safety safeguarding manuals
  • Provide review and input to QRAs and facility sitings
  • Develop process safety critical equipment and instrumentation lists
  • Develop egress, fire zone and safety equipment layouts
  • Facilitate PHA sessions (HAZID, What-IF, HAZOP, LOPA, SIL)
  • Perform fire and hazard assessments of facilities
  • Provide input to fire and gas detection layouts.  Provide input to firewater design
  • Participate in model reviews. Provide guidance on human factors and egress
  • Manage the closure of risk actions/recommendations generated from PHA
  • Perform consequence analysis and dispersion modelling
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines
  • Interface with Clients
  • Complete conceptual studies through to detail engineering stages

Expected:
    •    Minimum 10 years PHA facilitation experience
    •    Proficiency in PHA Pro
    •    Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
    •    At least 5 years’ experience in refining, petrochemicals, or oil & gas industries
    •    Strong written and oral communication skills in English
    •    General understanding of process engineering fundamentals
    •    Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work independently
    •    Experience coordinating with teams across multiple projects
    •    Relevant site experience including start-up/commissioning is preferred

Desirable:
    •    Firewater design experience
    •    Consequence analysis and dispersion modelling experience
    •    HAZOP, HAZID, and SIL rating studies experience
    •    Hands-on experience with PHAST or similar software
    •    Experience in FEED and detailed engineering projects
